I was working the graveyard shift on July 17, 1999.
About 12:40 a.m., I heard a loud noise in the back of the Lobby. I trotted to the rear of the Lobby - there was a man on the payphone, and he pointed out someone had just thrown an empty beer bottle against the Lobby back doors from outside.
I walked outside and surveyed the area. There was no damage to the door, but I could see the beer bottle was broken. There was no one visible in the immediate area.
After a few minutes I walked back inside the Lobby. By this time, the man on the payphone was in an argument with a second male. During their discussion, I overheard the second male admit to throwing the beer bottle against the back door. Evidently, he was upset because the door was locked. (It is my duty to lock the rear doors after 11:00 p.m.)
I interrupted the argument and asked the second male if he was a guest in the Hotel. Affirmative. I advised him to go back to his Room, pack his luggage and get out! I was evicting him for his conduct.
The man started demanding his money back. I advised him his room rent was forfeited, so he refused to leave.
This left me little choice but to phone the Daytona Beach Police for assistance. Officer J. Seepersaud arrived within minutes.
I appraised the officer of the situation and stated I wanted this guest evicted. The Police Officer took charge of the situation. He escorted my unruly guest back to his room to pack, and within a few minutes had him ready to leave.
Walt, the Night Auditor refunded the man his deposit money, but his room rent was forfeited. The man demanded I contact the Hotel Manager. I refused. The Police Officer escorted the man out the door. Buh-bye now!
