I was on duty for the graveyard shift on Sept. 11. It was a busy night, since karaoki night at Riley's Pub brought in a large number of visitors to the Resort.
About 2:00 a.m., I heard a Ford Mustang "revving" in our front driveway. The driver spun his tires and drag raced his car around the loop of our parking lot. He finally stopped in front of Denny's.
I approached the driver, and asked if he was a guest here. Negative, he was waiting for his girlfriend to come out of Dennys. I told him to leave the premises and not come back on this property again.
Just after his girlfriend came outside, the man got in an argument with two other men entering Dennys. The driver pulled a baseball bat out of his car and was brandishing it in a threatening manner towards the two men.
I was standing nearby, and was able to snatch the baseball bat out of his hands.
The driver, looking somewhat shocked, jumped back in his car and took off. I managed to get the Mustang's license plate number before he left. Good riddance, I thought.
I asked the two men going into Dennys if they wanted to press charges of Assault against the driver. Negative, they just wanted to forget about it.
About 20 minutes had passed, when the driver of the Mustang walked into the Lobby of my Hotel and had the nerve to ask me to return his baseball bat!
I told him his baseball bat was forfeited, and ordered him to leave the property at once or I would call the Daytona Police to come and arrest him.
He walked away making vague threats of "revenge," so at that point I phoned the Daytona Police to report the entire experience with the man.
The dispatcher advised me the Police could not arrest the man without charges being filed, but they would find him, and have a "little chat" about visiting our property again.
